Passed your test but feeling nervous driving solo? Build real-world confidence with our structured post-test course.
Passing your driving test proves you can drive safely under examination conditions, but many new drivers feel a significant confidence gap when they start driving independently—particularly on motorways, at night, or in challenging weather, none of which feature in the standard test. DriveSQ's new driver confidence course bridges this gap with structured, post-test lessons focused entirely on real-world scenarios.
Since 2018, learner drivers can take motorway lessons with an approved instructor, but many students pass their test without ever experiencing motorway conditions. Our confidence course includes dedicated motorway sessions covering joining and leaving slip roads, lane discipline at higher speeds, safe following distances, and managing the unique stress of fast-moving multi-lane traffic. We use the M60 and M56 corridors around Manchester, building from quieter periods to busier traffic as your confidence grows.
Driving at night involves entirely different visual and judgement skills than daytime driving—reduced visibility, glare from oncoming headlights, and harder-to-judge distances all require practice. Our night driving sessions teach proper headlight use, glare management techniques, and increased following distances appropriate for reduced visibility conditions.
Manchester's notoriously wet climate means new drivers need confidence handling rain, standing water, and reduced grip conditions. We teach proper following distances in wet weather, how to handle aquaplaning if it occurs, and braking technique adjustments for reduced traction—skills that significantly reduce accident risk in the months following your test.
Many new drivers feel comfortable on familiar test routes but anxious navigating unfamiliar areas. Our confidence course includes sessions using sat-nav and traditional navigation on routes you choose—perhaps your commute to work, a route to visit family, or roads you will use regularly—building specific confidence for your actual driving needs.
Every DriveSQ student gets free access to our Student Portal with 700+ DVSA theory questions, 14 mock tests, hazard perception training, and progress tracking.

Lessons around Altrincham use real local roads including Market Street, Greenwood Street and Stamford New Road, so by the time you're ready for your test you've already driven the streets you'll use every day after passing. Altrincham's market charter was granted by King Edward I in 1290, making it one of the oldest continuously operating market towns in England.
We also plan around school-run traffic near Loreto Grammar School and Stamford Park Primary School, using quieter spots like Dunham Massey Hall and deer park (National Trust) for early manoeuvre practice before stepping up to busier sections of Market Street.
Test centre: most learners around Altrincham test at Sale Driving Test Centre, 36-38 Poplar Grove, Sale, Greater Manchester, M33 7ER; mock tests are planned around the routes examiners actually use from there.
“Recommend to anyone learning around Altrincham — real local roads, real local knowledge, none of the guesswork.” – Daniel, Altrincham
