This is the most common question we hear at DriveSQ, and the honest answer is: it depends. Every learner is different, and anyone who quotes you a fixed number before meeting you is guessing.

The DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) recommends a minimum of 47 hours of professional tuition combined with 22 hours of private practice before taking your test. However, DriveSQ’s structured teaching approach means many of our learners reach test standard faster than the national average.

Typical DriveSQ Learner Journeys

Fast learner with some experience: 15–25 hours. Often someone who has had private practice or previous lessons elsewhere.

Average complete beginner: 30–45 hours. The majority of our Manchester learners fall into this range.

Nervous or anxious learner: 40–55 hours. Extra time is spent building confidence and comfort before progressing to busier roads.
