Rochdale Driving Test Centre — Maclure Road

The Rochdale Driving Test Centre is located at Maclure Road, Rochdale, OL11 1DN. It is the DVSA practical test centre serving learners across OL11, OL12, and OL16. All DriveSQ instructors are fully familiar with the test centre layout — the waiting area, the car park used for bay parking exercises, and the routes that leave from it.

We always conduct at least one pre-test lesson from the Maclure Road area so you know exactly what to expect on test day. There is parking nearby for accompanying adults, and the test centre is accessible by bus along Yorkshire Street.

Yorkshire Street (A58) — Bus Lanes & Pedestrian Crossings

Yorkshire Street is one of Rochdale's principal commercial roads and a staple of most test routes. As a learner, you need to be confident with:

• Bus lanes — know when they are in operation and which vehicles may use them
• Multiple pedestrian crossings, including near Rochdale Exchange shopping centre
• Heavy footfall, delivery vehicles pulling in and out, and busy junctions like the Town Hall junction on The Esplanade
• Observation at junctions feeding onto the Rochdale Ring Road

Queensway (A6045) — A-Road Confidence

The A6045 Queensway features a national speed limit section — an excellent preparation for A-road and dual carriageway driving. Many learners are surprised by the 50mph sections after the built-up approaches. We practise Queensway regularly so speed transitions feel natural, not alarming, on test day. This section of road is also excellent preparation for the M62 motorway lessons available through our Pass Plus course.

Rochdale Ring Road — Multi-Lane Junction Awareness

The Rochdale ring road requires strong lane discipline and early position decisions. The Kingsway roundabout and connecting junctions demand clear mirror-signal-manoeuvre routines and confidence in multi-lane environments. We build up ring road practice progressively, starting with quieter times of day before advancing to peak-hour runs.
