Wythenshawe's main arterial dual carriageway runs from the city boundary at Didsbury all the way south toward the Airport corridor. Simonsway is the spine road of Wythenshawe linking Benchill, Woodhouse Park, and Peel Hall — and it runs through a sequence of multi-exit roundabouts in close succession. Learners must maintain consistent roundabout observation, correct lane selection across consecutive junctions, and appropriate position through tight island curves. Styal Road (B5166) is Wythenshawe's main route into Manchester Airport and carries a constant mix of taxis, coaches, airport buses, HGVs, and private hire vehicles — many making sudden stops, pulling across lanes, and reversing from hotel and terminal forecourts. The unpredictability of Airport traffic at all hours makes Styal Road one of the highest-hazard corridors in M22. The main entrance to Wythenshawe Hospital on Southmoor Road creates a complex junction environment — ambulances with blue lights, hospital vehicles turning across the carriageway, pedestrian crossings used at unusually high frequency, and a busy bus stop sequence directly outside the main entrance. Emergency vehicle priority response and correct pedestrian crossing procedure in a high-frequency environment are tested here in every lesson that passes through this corridor.

The stretch of Altrincham Road through Northenden introduces a typical South Manchester residential arterial — parked cars narrowing the lanes, school crossing zones outside Northenden schools, and the transition from 40mph national-limit sections to tight 20mph zones through Northenden village. The Palatine Road junction and the Ford crossing over the Mersey are notable hazards on this route. Used on longer lesson routes to develop speed management across changing limit zones.

The Sharston Industrial Estate off Floats Road introduces HGV movements, complex give-way layouts at estate junctions, and vehicles reversing from loading bays. Wide road markings differ from standard residential convention, and HGVs make wide turns at narrow junctions. These are exactly the hazard types that appear on Stretford examiner routes from the industrial estate access roads — DriveSQ students are walked through the specific junction sequences that examiners use.

Ringway Road runs alongside Wythenshawe Park — a long straight section that learners misjudge for a national speed limit road (it is 40mph with camera enforcement). The park boundaries create periods of reduced street lighting, pedestrians crossing away from marked crossings, and dog walkers stepping into the road. A key road for consolidating speed limit recognition and default speed choices — an examiner favourite for catching overconfident learners on straight open-feeling roads.

Benchill Road runs through one of Wythenshawe's most densely populated residential corridors — parked cars on both sides for its full length, narrow passing points, estate junctions every 100m, and school drop-off traffic in mornings and afternoons. The challenges here are positional accuracy through tight parked-car gaps, frequent priority decisions at junctions, and managing the pace of following traffic while proceeding safely.
