How to Book Your Practical Driving Test — Step by Step
Once your instructor confirms you're test-ready, it's time to book your DVSA practical driving test. Here's exactly how to do it.
What You Need
- Your provisional driving licence
- Your theory test pass certificate number (must still be valid)
- A debit or credit card (practical test fee: £62 weekday / £75 evening, weekend, bank holiday)
How to Book Online
- Go to gov.uk/book-driving-test
- Sign in with your DVSA account
- Enter your provisional licence details and theory pass certificate number
- Choose your test centre (Manchester area options: Didsbury, Failsworth, Stockport, Bolton, Bury, Oldham)
- Select a date and time — check with your DriveSQ instructor first
- Pay the fee and confirm your booking
Choosing the Right Test Centre
Choose the test centre closest to where you've been having lessons. DriveSQ instructors have in-depth knowledge of routes from every Manchester area test centre — so if you've been practising in Didsbury, book Didsbury test centre.
What Happens on Test Day
- Arrive at least 10 minutes early
- Bring your provisional licence (and counterpart if applicable)
- Your DriveSQ instructor can accompany you to the test centre in their car
- The examiner will introduce themselves, explain the test, and ask show me / tell me questions
- You'll drive for approximately 38–40 minutes
- Return to the test centre for your result
