Who Suits a 1-Week Intensive Course?

Intensive courses are brilliant for the right person, but they are not for everyone. Here is an honest assessment of who benefits most:

Ideal Candidates

  • You have a job starting soon that requires a driving licence
  • You are a university student with a free week between terms
  • You have some driving experience (abroad, private land, or lapsed lessons) and need to get test-ready quickly
  • You learn best through immersion and daily repetition rather than weekly sessions
  • You are motivated and can commit to 4-6 hours of focused driving per day

Consider Regular Lessons Instead If...

  • You experience high driving anxiety — daily pressure can increase stress
  • You have never sat in a car before and have zero road awareness
  • You cannot dedicate a full week without work or study interruptions
  • You prefer to absorb skills gradually with time to reflect between lessons
  • You have a physical condition that makes long daily driving sessions uncomfortable

Setting Realistic Expectations

We believe in honesty over hype. Here is what you should realistically expect from an intensive driving course:

What Our Intensive Learners Say

"I booked the 30-hour intensive with DriveSQ because I needed my licence before starting a new job in Trafford Park. My instructor Bilal was incredible — he knew every test route from Sale test centre and we practised them all week. Passed first time with only 2 minors. Cannot recommend enough." — Aisha, M32
"I had tried weekly lessons for 6 months with another school and was getting nowhere. Switched to DriveSQ's intensive course and the daily practice made everything click. The structure of doing it every day meant I actually remembered what I learned. Passed at Cheetham Hill first attempt." — Marcus, M8
"As a mature learner (38), I was nervous about an intensive course. DriveSQ assessed me on day 1 and recommended the 30-hour package instead of the 20 I originally booked. They were right — I needed the extra time for roundabouts. Passed at West Didsbury with 3 minors. Worth every penny." — Sarah, M20

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do an intensive course in automatic?

Yes. DriveSQ offers intensive courses in both automatic and manual at the same price. Automatic intensive learners often progress faster because they can focus entirely on road skills without worrying about clutch control. Many of our intensive learners choose automatic specifically to maximise their chances of passing within the course timeframe.

What if I am not ready for the test by the end of the course?

Your instructor will give you an honest assessment throughout the course. If you are not test-ready by day 10, we will not push you into a test you are likely to fail. We can reschedule the test and provide additional lessons (at standard £35/hr rate) until you are genuinely ready. With the PassFirst package, follow-up support lessons are included free.

Do I need to have passed my theory test before starting?

You do not need your theory pass to start intensive lessons, but you must have it before your practical test date. We strongly recommend passing your theory test at least 1 week before your intensive course begins. This allows you to focus entirely on practical driving during the course. DriveSQ provides free theory test resources and mock test links to help you prepare.
