Need your licence fast? DriveSQ intensive courses pack 20-40 hours of professional tuition into one or two focused weeks. We combine daily lessons with test-route practice and mock tests so you are test-ready by course end.
How Our Intensive Course Works
We assess your current level and build (or refresh) core skills: moving off, stopping, steering, gear changes, MSPSL routine. Quieter roads in your local area.
Junctions, roundabouts, dual carriageways, lane discipline. Real Manchester roads — Wilmslow Road, Princess Road, Hyde Road, Stockport Road. Progressive difficulty.
All four manoeuvres (parallel park, bay park forward/reverse, pull-up-right). Independent driving with sat-nav. Show me/tell me questions.
Full 40-minute mock test on your test centre's actual routes. Scored on a real DL25 marking sheet. Debrief and targeted practice on weak areas.
Warm-up lesson, confidence check, drive to test centre. You have already driven these roads dozens of times — it is just another lesson.

Who Suits a 1-Week Intensive Course?
Intensive courses are brilliant for the right person, but they are not for everyone. Here is an honest assessment of who benefits most:
Ideal Candidates
- You have a job starting soon that requires a driving licence
- You are a university student with a free week between terms
- You have some driving experience (abroad, private land, or lapsed lessons) and need to get test-ready quickly
- You learn best through immersion and daily repetition rather than weekly sessions
- You are motivated and can commit to 4-6 hours of focused driving per day
Consider Regular Lessons Instead If...
- You experience high driving anxiety — daily pressure can increase stress
- You have never sat in a car before and have zero road awareness
- You cannot dedicate a full week without work or study interruptions
- You prefer to absorb skills gradually with time to reflect between lessons
- You have a physical condition that makes long daily driving sessions uncomfortable
Setting Realistic Expectations
We believe in honesty over hype. Here is what you should realistically expect from an intensive driving course:
- It is physically and mentally tiring. Driving 4-6 hours a day requires intense concentration. Expect to feel exhausted in the first few days. This is normal and your stamina will build.
- Not everyone passes on the first attempt. DriveSQ's intensive pass rate is over 85%, which is exceptional — but it is not 100%. If you do not pass, our PassFirst package includes free follow-up lessons at no extra cost.
- Test availability matters. DVSA practical test slots in Manchester can have 6-12 week waiting times. We recommend booking your test date first, then scheduling your intensive course to end the day before. DriveSQ can help you find cancellation test slots to get an earlier date.
- You need your theory test first. You cannot book a practical test without passing the theory test. If you have not done this yet, allow 2-3 weeks of revision before your intensive course starts.
- Skill levels vary. Complete beginners typically need the full 40-hour (2-week) course. If you have 10-15 hours of previous experience, the 20-hour (1-week) course is usually sufficient. We assess honestly on Day 1 and adjust the plan if needed.
What Our Intensive Learners Say
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do an intensive course in automatic?
Yes. DriveSQ offers intensive courses in both automatic and manual at the same price. Automatic intensive learners often progress faster because they can focus entirely on road skills without worrying about clutch control. Many of our intensive learners choose automatic specifically to maximise their chances of passing within the course timeframe.
What if I am not ready for the test by the end of the course?
Your instructor will give you an honest assessment throughout the course. If you are not test-ready by day 10, we will not push you into a test you are likely to fail. We can reschedule the test and provide additional lessons (at standard £35/hr rate) until you are genuinely ready. With the PassFirst package, follow-up support lessons are included free.
Do I need to have passed my theory test before starting?
You do not need your theory pass to start intensive lessons, but you must have it before your practical test date. We strongly recommend passing your theory test at least 1 week before your intensive course begins. This allows you to focus entirely on practical driving during the course. DriveSQ provides free theory test resources and mock test links to help you prepare.
